BAPTISM
OF THE LORD BY IKECHUKWU OGUN 13-01-2013
With the Baptism of Our
Lord Jesus Christ, the Advent-Christmas Liturgical season comes to an end. We
enter the Ordinary Time of the Liturgical Year, of which this year 2013 is in
Year C. Christ’s Baptism brings us into the reality of hearing that divine
voice once again and repeatedly in our individual consciences saying: Hic est Filius meus dilectus, in quo mihi
bene complacui – This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased Matt.
3: 17; Mk. 1: 11; Lk. 3: 22. The problem is, could this be said of me as an
individual or can I accept or appreciate this sayings when referred to another
person and I then follow whatever the person says in the name the Most Holy Trinity
through the instrumentality of the Church? In so doing then the presence of the
dove which may likely hover on my head will ignite the fire of love which
speaks of truth, peace, humility, forgiveness, continence, chastity, charity,
etc. This will certainly show the virtues of life which was anchored on the
good example of Him who had no sin, yet have to show us the necessity of
Baptism in our lives by sanctifying the Jordan Water as the flow spiritually in
our lives and then enter any other water symbolically in a sacramental form
which may be used for baptism. Let us try to imitate Our Saviour through this
Sacrament, looking at those we might have known here on earth and are now among
the saints, as the appreciate better the divine work of God inter nos. Oh Blessed Virgin Mother,
intercede for us, Iwene Tansi di Ngozi, yobala anyi ayiyo.
